Reserva’s “What’s My Name?” two-day lesson plan was designed for teachers participating in our “Name This Frog!” competition. Though the competition has now ended, the materials are still a wonderful exercise in naming species!

Our Habitat & Biodiversity Conservation unit combines environmental education with tangible conservation solutions. With eco-anxiety on the rise, we believe that teaching solutions alongside challenges will benefit the mental health of students and help the planet at the same time. If you have questions, comments, or requests for our next unit, please email info@reservaylt.org. Stay tuned for a Spanish edition!

This unit is designed for grades 2–4, and is divided into five lessons with multiple worksheets, resources, and activities: Lesson 1: What is Biodiversity? Lesson 2: Where do you find Biodiversity? Lesson 3: Threats to Biodiversity; Lesson 4: Solutions; Lesson 5: My First Action. This unit addresses U.S. Next Generation Science Standards (listed on p3).

This unit was written and developed for Reserva by Emily Voreas, a 2nd grade teacher from California.

Why Reserva supports educators:

Reserva is dedicated to empowering youth through our three impact areas: conservation, education, and storytelling. As part of our core mission, we believe that helping to educate youth and children around conservation solutions will help spread conservation optimism, and thus a more productive and driven body of youth. This unit ends with an action to reflect on the lessons learned in the form of a letter. We ask that teachers send us these letters (via email if not snail mail) for participation in our 1 Million Letters campaign, so each student can save a classroom-sized area of rainforest by sharing their voice. Learn more here, and check out some of the latest submissions below:

To learn about sponsoring the One Million Letters campaign’s conservation match funding, or other engagement opportunities, please send an email to info@reservaylt.org.
